Arrived in Beaune for wine tasting at the Caves de Cordeliers. Tasted one white and three reds and a Crème de Cassis in the wine cellar. We loved the white and the Crème de Cassis. The reds were good, and each was very distinctive. The Winery is a 700-year-old convent.
Did some window-shopping and meandering around charming town then on to a nice dinner at Le Cercle. The food was wonderful! Crème de Cassis sorbet was to die for. The proprietor didn't speak English but was friendly and helpful.
A small outdoor market was open in the morning with some lovely tablecloths, sweets, meats, and some darling tooth boxes which I bought for my kids Sadie (2 1/2) and Sam (1 1/2). I also bought them the sweetest little outfits in a little shop in Beaune called La Compagnie des Petits. Wanted to browse in the La Occitane shop, but it didn't open in time. We loved the Flemish tile roof of Les Hospices de Beaune. Bought cookie-shaped trivets at our inn, Hotel des Ramparts. It was a short but very pleasant visit. We were totally enchanted by the town and hope to return to spend more time wandering the streets.
On the way out of France we enjoyed a fabulous lunch in the Burgundy region. The beef burgundy was tender, the crudités was varied and tasty, and the berry tart was great. Tammy used a pit toilet across the street just for the experience. On to Gimmelwald, Switzerland. |
